With an increasing number of people with developmental disabilities and multiple co-occurring needs, complexity is to be expected. Sometimes these complexities can lead to involvement with the criminal justice system.

This webinar will provide an overview of the forensic process from a first encounter with law enforcement to arrest, arraignment, incarceration, alternatives and more with a focus on how a person we support might experience that process.

Competency examinations will be discussed along with the potential impact of bail reform as it relates to the individual, their housemates, co-workers, neighbors, staff that support them, and staffing issues.

The roles and responsibilities of counties, providers, and OPWDD will be outlined along with a review of recently issued forensic Administrative Directive Memoranda (ADMs). Additionally, some practical proactive and reactive strategies will be offered.
