Telephone Triage for RNs & Understanding Telephone Triage for DSPs
Telephone triage / management has become an important dimension of ID/DD residential care systems. Increased numbers of individuals with ID/DD who have complex healthcare needs now live in community settings.
Telephone Triage for NYS Nurses: This training is intended to provide RNs with the tools necessary to assess a situation over the phone and to provide direction to direct care staff. This training is offered two times per year.
Understanding Telephone Triage for Direct Support Professionals and Other Support Staff: This training is intended to prepare all non-medical staff for their role in the event they are involved with a medical emergency/situation at their workplace. While the DSP may be the main person involved, the reality is any staff in an agency that provides services can become part of the telephone triage. It is essential that all support staff have the skills, knowledge, and understanding to recognize potential emergent situations and notify the nurse immediately.
